Business Interview: LBE Creations

m a WAHM to 3 little princesses (4, 2 & 4mths) I started L.B.E. Creations by a bit of a fluke one day while talking to some family members about some Christmas stockings i had made one year, and thought i believe people would love to be able to buy these for their kids, and its all history from there.

At L.B.E. Creations we have a large range of items which is still expanding. We make personalized Library bags, Christmas stockings & cushions, a small range of children's clothing, hair-clip holders, knitted items, baby items and very soon we will have a range of pram snugglies.

Our products are unique as they are all handmade and a lot of items are done to custom order.

At this stage we do not have a website only our facebook page : http://www.facebook.com/lbecreation
I'm hoping to start doing some local markets in the next few months as well.

I don't have a favorite product at the moment, i have & use all the products i make, i don't think my girls would not let me make them one of everything.

My advice to anyone starting their own handmade business is that although its good just to jump in, you really need to have a good supply of stock up before you start, so your not behind the eight ball and trying to play catch up!!

Thank you very much for this opportunity, small businesses like mine could not keep going if it wasnt for wonderful pages like yours.

Ooh Baby Clips Interview

Business Name: Oooh Baby Clipz
Tell us a little about yourself:
My name is Carla and I'm a WAHM to 2 beautiful children aged 3 1/2 and 18 months. I live in a small country town in Central West NSW. I have a passion for anything crafty and I love to create new and exciting things. I run two businesses, Oooh Baby Clipz & Oooh Baby Scrapbooking. I started Oooh Baby Scrapbooking in 2006 and I came up with the name as I was only concentrating on baby scrapbooking products. Oooh Baby Clipz started late last year after having my little girl and wanting her to have nice hair clips and things to wear!

What Products do you sell?
I currently sell Handmade hair accessories including, hair clips, headbands, kufi hats, school bows, NRL/AFL bows, clip holders and decorated baby wipe cases. I'm also just starting to add name letters to my range and I currently have some gorgeous Pettiskirts in transit due to arrive very soon! I also have plans for some more new products, but i will keep that a secret for now!!

What makes your products unique?
There are alot of other wonderful people who also make hair accessories so it is fairly hard to noe make the same products. But i do try to come up with my own ideas and my own twists on things and I try not to use the same products as others but this can be quite hard, especially if we shop in the same place! Although I do believe that my NRL/AFL bows are quite unique and I have not seen any others around that use logos which help mine be unique to others!
Do you have a website?
I do have a website for my scrapbooking business www.ooohbabyscrapbooking.com.au which I intend to transform in the coming months by adding all of my hair accessories on to it as well!

Purchasing anywhere other then online?
I have all my clips listed on my Oooh Baby Clipz fan page which currently the only way to purchase or by sending me an email to carla@ooohbabyscrapbooking.com.au :)
Specials...
I ran a sale album a couple of weeks ago and it was a huge success so I've decided to run the same type of sale monthly. They will be around the middle of each month.

Do you have a fave product?
It's very hard to single something out as I take pride in everything I make and if I'm not happy with the way it turned out then i throw it to the side!!

Advice...
Make sure that it is something that you enjoy doing! My venture has turned out to be a very busy business for me and I'd hate to think what it would be like if I didn't enjoy doing it!
Anything else?
Smiley Tots clothing also stock a range of my hair accessories which is very exciting for me! And if you could spare a minute to check out my fan page and have a look at what i have to offer, i'd really appreciate it :)

Mitty Moo Baby Cakes

Mitti Moo Baby CakesBusiness Name: Mitty Moo Baby Cakes

Business Name: Mitty Moo Baby Cakes

Tell us a little about yourself- My name is Sarah and I live in Sydney. I am currently on Maternity leave from my teaching career as I care for my two gorgeous daughters, Sophie and Natalie.

I made my first nappy cake as a gift in 2007 and since then I have made many more for friends. I decided to venture out and offer them to people who were after a special baby gift.

There are plenty of nappy cake makers and websites out there, however my aim is to offer people a cheaper option without compromising on quality and professional service.

Mitty Moo was Sophie's nickname as a baby and therefore it has a special meaning to me.

What products/services do you sell? We have nappy cakes in 1, 2 or 3 tiers, baby sock bouquets, face washer lollypops and we are currently working on some new surprises.

What makes your product/service unique? We offer quality presents that are thoughtfully constructed. Everything included is reusable and practical. We custom make gifts based on specific needs and our communication and customer service is very important to us.

Do you have a website?
Not at the moment, however it is on the horizon.

Can people purchase your products other than online?
We are currently sourcing appropriate markets within the Sydney area.

Do you have any special/competitions or discounts that you would like people to know about? All specials and discounts are listed on Mitty Moo Baby Cakes facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kingsgrove-Australia/Mitty-Moo-Baby-Cakes/101417783236408?ref=ts .

For those who mention Handmade Galore, I will give you a 20% discount off your order (Valid until 31/5/10)

Do you have a favorite product? I love making custom orders. We just purchased a gorgeous giraffe to top a special unisex cake, I can not wait to create that!

Any advice for anyone else starting their own handmade business? Enjoy what you do! We are just starting our business so maybe we should be receiving advice at this point rather then giving it!!

Anything else you wish to tell everyone about? Would love for you to visit us and suggest us to your friends. If you have any suggestions or comments feel free to send us an email at mittymoobabycakes@gmail.com

Business Interview - Smiley Tots Clothing

Business Name: Smiley Tots ClothingTell us a little about yourself- Behind Smiley Tots Clothing are two Mums attempting to work at home with the support of their brave Smiley husbands and five adorable Smiley Tots.We initially met while pregnant with our beautiful Oct 07 babies though an online forum however it took almost 2 more years before we actually met face to face – although it felt like we had been friends forever anyway. Our sewing adventures came about through a love of Modern Cloth Nappies and the urge to create Christmas outfits for our precious babies. A few nappies, a couple of dresses and some shorts later it was suggested we go into business. A joke and a laugh later, Smiley Tots Clothing was born and since then we’ve been on a rollercoaster learning curve establishing our very own work from home business – definitely a lot more complicated then agreeing to go into business togetherWhat products/services do you sell? Currently we sell handmade clothing for children up to size 6. Our clothing range includes pants, shorts, appliqué t-shirts, our super cute Pinny dresses and Aunty Jo creations hand crochet beanies. There are also plans to release a reversible pinny dress. We hope to release our Smiley Bums Modern Cloth Nappies in the near future, which are currently at trial stage. We like to think we are different from other things on offer out there as we have developed our own patterns and use our own creativity to come up with products that will hopefully appeal to a lot of different peopleDo you have a website? We have recently launched our website – www.smileytotsclothing.comCan people purchase your products other than online? No, all of our products can be found at www.smileytotsclothing.com or at Smiley Tots Clothing on Facebook. Do you have a favorite product? Jayne – at the moment I really love our little appliquéd hats with ears. I think they are adorable!Peta - I think it would have to be the flannel pants. They are so soft and look super cute - perfect for a smiley tots winterAny advice for anyone else starting their own handmade business? Establishing a business has been a huge learning curve for us. It’s not as simple as making a product and then selling (we wish it was though).Make sure you talk to others who have their own business, find out what you need but don’t get turned off cause it sounds too hard. Now that we have our website up, every step of the process has been stressful but worth it. Anything else you wish to tell everyone about? We enjoy making all of our products. We buy our material in small lots which means that there may only be a few pieces that are the same. Please come check smiley tots clothing out if you want your little smiley tot to wear something that is handmade and unique.
